ISTP Urban Data
Click
here for complete data on the cities (PDF 88kb) Data for 84 cities in
1995 (the latest year available) are used to establish a global perspective,
while 15 cities typical of the situation in industrial and developing countries
are compared to illustrate the main differences. The indicators discussed
include transportation energy, transit use, population density, nonmotorized
transport (NMT), relative speed of transit to traffic, and length of freeway.
The data are from a comparative study of 100
global cities for the International Union of Public Transport (UITP) and
conducted by the Institute for Sustainab ility and Technology Policy (ISTP)
at Murdoch University. It involved 27 parameters using highly controlled
processes to ensure comparability of data. Click
