Urban Design for Sustainability 14-17 April 2009

In 2009 this course will be presented in conjunction with the Urban Design Centre of WA and the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute

The Institute for Sustainability and Technology Policy (ISTP)at Murdoch University will partner with the Urban Design Centre of WA and the Curtin University Sustainabllity Policy Institute to present the 2008 intensive course in urban design forsustainability. This course provides an opportunity for students and professionals in the planning field and other interested parties to develop an understanding of the core concepts involved in urban design. The unit will also allow enrolled students to apply urban design concepts in a practical fieldwork project after the formal week-long lecture and discussion sessions.

Speakers include Munira Mackay and Malcolm Mackay, both architect/urban designers, Peter Zadeian of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, Jan Scheurer from ISTP, and Peter Newman from CUSP, as well as representatives from the City of Kwinana and Gosnels. Speakers on the site visits will include representatives from the Subiaco, Midland and East Perth Redevelopment Authorities.

The unit will be of particular interest to:

    • Officers in Local and State Government departments dealing with various aspects of Perth’s urban and regional planning and transport development;
    • Employees of planning and transport consulting firms;
    • Developers and real estate professionals;
    • Members of community groups campaigning for better urban environments;
    • Overseas planners and transport professionals

The unit is formally recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia (WA Division) for the purpose of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for PIA members. CPD
points are credited at the rate of 1 point per net hour of CPD activity.
