My PhD is a qualitative study of genetic counselors and consanguineous (cousin) couples exploring their views on cultural difference. I am using consanguinity as an example of a culturally based practice. The aim is to develop the current transcultural model of genetic cousnelling into a more comprehansive narrative based approach. This would encompass a broader definition of cultural difference and enhance the experience of genetic counselling for our clients and ensure the continued development of the profession.
